Dedicated improvisor and electro acoustic pioneer, Bonnie Kane integrates saxophone, flute, feedback and electronics. With over 40 releases, she also appears on John Spencer Blues Explosion’s LP, “Orange”, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s, “Luciferian Towers”, performing several shows with GY!BE in support of the album. Her work is documented in Cisco Bradley’s 2023 book, “The Williamsburg Avant-Garde, Experimental Music and Sound on the Brooklyn Waterfront”. She curates and performs in the monthly live streamed improvisors’ series, Masters of Sonic Liberation, now in its’ 3rd year.

She was influenced by an unusually early exposure to Sun Ra, studies with Sonny Simmons, Paul McCandless, Glenn Moore, Ralph Towner (Oregon), and Jon Raskin (Rova Saxophone Quartet). A stint in the original Club Foot Orchestra, whose members then included Snakefinger (The Residents) and Eric Drew Feldman (Capt Beefheart), introduced her to electronic processing for horns, and brief study at Mills College under Anthony Braxton solidified her direction.

A Philadelphia-born, NYC / Massachusetts based musician and curator, Kane has established herself as a significant voice in the international improvisation and experimental music communities. Her discography includes over 40 releases, and her work has placed her alongside influential figures in experimental, noise, and avant-garde music. She is a guest artist on both John Spencer Blues Explosion’s landmark LP, “Orange”, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s, “Luciferian Towers”, performing with GY!BE during the New England portion of their album tour.

Kane’s contribution to Brooklyn’s experimental music landscape is documented in Cisco Bradley’s 2023 book The Williamsburg Avant-Garde, Experimental Music and Sound on the Brooklyn Waterfront. As curator, performer, and host of the Masters of Sonic Liberation Series, now in its’ third year, she presents emerging and established experimental artists.

Performing as a solo artist (Bonnie Kane Solo Noise, Transcendent Winds), as part of KaneLoggiaHYPOTHESIS, and in larger ensemble configurations, Kane continues to expand the possibilities of electro-acoustic improvisation. Her bands have opened for The Boredoms, Hawkwind, Nik Turner, Acid Mothers Temple, and she has played several shows with Makoto Kawabata in Japan, connecting audiences through exploration, intensity, and the shared experience of sound as transformation.
